Unfortunatley it only takes a few seconds to obtain windows passwords with a rainbow table due to the crappy hash they use. So for the love of god don't use the same password you use for windows for anything else.

Only for passwords up to 14 characters. For some reason it uses a different hash method after that. I'm not sure why they just don't change it so it always uses the stronger method

Surely this analysis is only valid if you already know the number of different character types in a password?

It reports that a password of 8 lower case characters has 208,827,064,576 (i.e. 26^8) combinations and would take 0.76 hours to crack by brute force.
If you know from the start that it's just 8 lower case characters this is fine, but if you don't have that information it would take longer to crack via brute force.

I assume it takes into account the time taken to test all combos of 1 letter, 2 letter, etc

Besides the time to crack the previous combos is negligible in comparison.

Your password is 1 characters long and has 26 combinations.

I think you need to think about how a bruteforce password hacker works :p (if your password is z, then it will take 26 'goes' to find it, hence 26 combos!)
