I used to have a very short fuse but not with other people.
It was usually due to technology not doing what I wanted it to or being angry at myself for not being able to do something that I felt I should be able to do.
In any situation where I did get angry I always took it out on inanimate objects... or myself.
I've calmed down totally now, I hardly ever get mad any more. The last time I got really stressed was last year, the night before a uni deadline, when my printer packed up. It went out of the window.
The reason I calmed down so much followed an argument with my girlfriend (at the time). I went to work in a very busy kitchen after having a rather large but rather stupid fall-out with her. The stress of the kitchen got to me after about an hour and I ended up cutting one of my fingers off in a fit of rage. :s
I went to stab a packet of bacon with a steak knife but the bacon was frozen and I was wearing a wet latex glove. My hand slipped down the handle, over the blade and no more finger.
It's surprising how much self analysis and thinking you can do when you spend a week in hospital with only your stupid fault to blame.
My fuse used to be really short, I would lose it quickly and for no reason when i was 18-23 ish. I think my ex used to wind me up on purpose, we always argued.
Now I am in my 30's, I am chilled, I can't remember arguing with the wife more than a few times (I do as she says ) but I get irritated at work, and being quite opinionated, I end up clashing with the muppets here..
I suppose with most people, you end up chilling out more as you get older.
I have a variable fuse length depending on the situation i am in. Friends and family get the long fuse edition, unless in a sporting/gaming situation where short fuse mode is activated.
Loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong - though it's more because I don't have a long enough attention span to remain angry, tend to find other things to occupy myself!
Think I've lost my temper (bar teenage strops) twice, once when my then g/f told me she had pulled some other guy so I shouted down the phone at her and threw my kebab on the floor, the other time when I had spent 2 days driving around the country moving stuff around - I asked 2 of my flatmates to move my stuff upstairs as I was driving down to Bournemouth and back to get my other flatmate & his stuff, when I got back 8 hours later they were still sat on the sofa and didn't do a thing so I said to *&^ing move the stuff and stormed out and slammed the door, apparently they were in a state of shock for a few minutes as no-one had ever seen me angry
Short, but now it just builds up inside me and i dont take it out on people. When i was younger I used to be the same but anyone/any door or wall near me would be on the receving end.
Think I have got much better now, but it seems to be getting worse as i get older now (more responsibiltys/stress etc)
It's fair to say I snap quite quickly and more often than not I'm not afraid to say my piece. But if no one ****** me off, then I'm a nice guy, honest .
I didn't lose it once yesterday for example, but the day before I almost broke my hand punching stuff because someone equalised against me on Fifa 08 online . Stupid, I know .
I'm usually very calm with people, so yeah, I don't have a short fuse.
When I drink, on the other hand, it's a different matter entirely. I'm not physically aggressive, just verbally belligerent and oh such a cynical jerk.
Red head = bad temper, although usually it takes quite a lot to get me going. But when I go for it, I really go for it, but it's usually over people being completely and dangerously stupid or being horrible to kids / animals.
There a quote in a film that goes something like this -
There are two types of people in the world. There is the customer who goes into a shop everyday and abuses the assistant because they have had a crap morning. Then there is the assistant who puts up with the abuse for a number of months.
Eventually the assistant looses it and shoots the customer.
Im the second one.
Very long fuse and takes a lot to **** me off, but when i blow, that it. I remember doing this at home once when my mum kept pestering me. I ended up punching holes in my wardrobe door whilst looking quite annoyed to say the least!
Anyone know what film it was, i think it was some like Conair
edit -same, common sense goes right out the window
