how smart has your home gone?

Lidl have got some smart home kit in today. Ive picked up a couple of bulbs and sockets. I'm running home assistant with zigbee2mqtt and a CC2531. The bulbs were picked up straight away with no issues. The sockets added as unsupported - ive seen requests to add the id to the devices list on the github so hopefully will be added soon!

Any suggestions how to control a dehumidifier to come on when temperature/humidity conditions are fulfilled?

Depends what equipment you have.

Is it a smart dehumidifier?

If i was to add it to my smart home, i've got Aqara sensors which report temperature/humidity, and then a smart plug on a dumb dehumidifier (or no smart plug required if the dehumidifier is smart / allows remote start). Then i could set up some basic automations to switch on when temperature/humidity reaches X, and then switch off after Y amount of time, or when temperature/humidity reaches Z.

Some Dehumifiers have sensors to do that automatically don't they? It's probably just easier to buy one of those?

Although looks like they only work off humidity and not temperature.
Mine is smart, but the fan runs the whole time, and when the temperature in the house drops at night, efficiency drops so I'd rather be able to turn it off completely.

I suppose a smart plug and google home would suffice to tell it to turn it off.

You can buy plugs that turn on and off within a set temperature range. Popular with reptile owners, Inkbird do them but I'm sure there are plenty to choose from. They also do a version that is triggered by humidity but not sure if they do both temperature and humidity in one device.

Picked this up on Christmas Eve as it was on offer, we used it in the garden yesterday for a little outdoor lighting while we sat around the fire pit. In the future when we buy a house we want to build an outhouse/office in the garden, so I think this will look good attached to an out building in some way, or maybe a seating area.

Until then, I have popped it on top of the kitchen cabinets and have an Echo Flex with motion sensor trigger it along with the under cabinet lights that are plugged in to a smart plug.

Works pretty well, the sensor is also set to turn them off after 1 second of no detected motion, which usually happens about 15 seconds after you leave the kitchen.

I've got a few timer switches for the fish tanks, there about as smart as my house has got (and a few Bluetooth speakers :D) which considering i work in the IT world of latest and greatest is best i've yet to come across anything that seems like its worth the hassle of setting up and living with.

genuine question here but what am i missing out on? :) i dont wanna end up like the parent who fails to set the vcr clock :D

I'd say you're missing out on a little convenience and just something of a party trick with your bulbs, nothing else :p

I do like it though, we have Amazon Echos in the Living Room, Dining Room, Kitchen, Bedroom and Office. These are all used for music and general questions/adding to shopping lists/etc. When buying the extra Echos for other rooms I always did so when Amazon were offering a Hue bulb in the package, so started accumulating them slowly.

Now the office lamp is set to turn on just before sun set, which works well for my wife who is in there every day. Obviously in summer this is set not to happen as it isn't needed. The bedroom lamp turns on automatically when we go to bed after we tell Alexa to 'turn off downstairs', which switches off all of the lights that are on, currently the Christmas tree lights and the TV, and also sets the CCTV cameras to monitor for any motion, other than the dog.

When we say 'turn off downstairs' before we go to bed, Alexa replies by asking if we turned off the heating and locked the doors, something that used to happen a lot. When we buy a house later next year I want to add smart locks to the doors. This way I can just add the locks to the 'turn off downstairs' routine and they'll automatically lock. Also will have a smart thermostat to turn the heating down too.

The kitchen lights as you see in the video, are just triggered by a motion sensor, so we never need to flick a switch in the kitchen as they are plenty bright enough for cooking. At night they come on a little dimmer just to find your way to the fridge/kettle/etc.

I also set all the bulbs to turn off, apart from the living room lamp, when we leave the house. They turn back on when we arrive so we can see in the house. This is actually quite useful as annoyingly the switches aren't right by the door so you would have to fish around in the dark.

Obviously none of this is necessary for anyone, but it's quite cool and makes getting around the house at night a little easier. Also means I don't have to remember to switch off lights when we go to bed or out of the house.

I keep looking at them on Amazon when they pop up on my page somewhere, but I'm struggling to think of a use for any of it and I can see them going into the 'bottom drawer of doom' with the rest of the stuff that looked like a good idea but never gets used :D

Was looking at the Philips Hue gradient lightstrip... then realised the Hue Play HDMI sync box is sold separately and is MORE expensive at £229 . Anyone splurged on what is a £390 ambilight setup?

Haha, no. Doesn't even work with built-in TV apps so it wouldn't work 99% of the time for me!

Seems Smart Life can't send notifications to my home assistant, I'll have to see if there is some sort of workaround.

You should be able to connect Kasa devices right to Home Assistant.

No, but I use 3 playbars behind my monitor and hue light sync works fine for that.. no syncbox required

It isn't a Kasa device which I'm using.

Next question, I need a plug that can measure power draw that doesn't rely on cloud, any recommendations?
