How Soon Can You Put a Deposit on a Newly Announced Car?

And for the comment that says a £25-£30k price tag puts it up with the Evo's of the world, er thats exactly where they want it to be!!!

I happily paid £18.5k for a 225bhp Focus ST-2. I thought that was pretty good value for money compared to the competition. 25-30k for a 300bhp Focus RS places it firmly in Evo + STI territory. In that price bracket, my money wouldn't be going anywhere near Ford unfortunately. :(

But you must understand, that there are enough of us that WILL happily spend it.

If there wasnt a market for it, Ford wouldnt sell it! They have seen the sucess of the ST, which supprised me on how good it actually is even in that day-glow orange which I personally wouldnt have (but loads have!)...

Its personal choice, otherwise we would all be wearing the same, looking the same, and driving the same - and thats no place to live is it!!!

I wouldnt spend £40k on a Land Rover Discovery, but people do!!!

Ford WILL make this car.

Let me say that again, Ford WILL make this car.

The ST and the RS badge are two seperate things, run by two totally seperate divisions of Ford. To say an RS will kill sales on the ST is rubbish too, because the R32 doesnt kill sales of the GTi does it!

Ford want to win the WRC rally Championship again, and with a 300 BHP 4x4 holmologated they will have more of a chance.

Currently expected late 2008, so ignore any price points as they will wait to see what else is available and listen to public opinion when they start to show "pre-production" models (like that bright yellow Civic Type R concept) at the big Motorshows (excluding the UK as we dont really have a BIG motorshop anymore).....

I personally cant wait! Ive wanted this car since before the last RS focus, which is, if you havent driven one a great great car!

The new Focus will be starting to appear round early 2k9, so arent they leaving it a bit late?

Im with Sloth 28k for a R32 or evo or a focus, at 17k a ST is a bargain, but only real die hard fan boys will spend silly money on a uber focus. And thats coming from me whose last 4 cars have been hot fords.

Let me reiterate, Ford will NOT make this car, they are not in a financial position to lose money.

A ST at £17k is the basic model, your looking at nearly £22k if you want all the toys and gizmos added. Even the Tango Paint is a £700 extra and if you dont have that, the ST just looks like a standard focus with a bigger set of wheels on......

I dont like the new Scooby, and personally I dont actually like the EVO's massive depreciation levels which Ive seen. The Old Focus RS is doing very well (ok, its a limited edition) but still shows that the cars are popular even now. The RS badge is the one thing that Ford know people loose their marbles over, I know have ever since my first RS2000 Mk1.
And if this car wins them the WRX, then they will make millions like all the previous winnners have in the past.

.

It then looks like a std orange focus with big wheels on, Tango models are available for 17-19k no probs, now that people have realised that electric orange isnt a special ed colour after all, the demand for them has died down.

What toys and gizmo's would you want, my ST3 has everything as std bar key free, deatc and the phone kit, whoppe doo!and thats only 1k's worth of options, on top of the 18k list.

You can get a Golf GTI for 22k with toys.

If the this 'new' RS is going to hold its value, it will have to be a limited run, which will drive the list price even higher possibly 35k.

Ford are in a very precarious position, and cannot afford to make mistakes, they are ploughing all their efforts into the new mondeo, which need sto be a fleet winner for them to survive in europe, they are also concentarting on the hot mondeo too which will use the volvo 5 pot.

They aint got time or the resource to fanny about with an expensive loss leader.

Your arguement is well received, hence Im carrying on with my side!

The RS department I wouldnt say will ever "mass" produce a car, and even though I dont think they can afford to sell this car as a limited run like the older focus, I still think numbers will be a whole lot smaller then the ST.

All the older RS models (the more original ones and not that stupid late escort RS2000 4x4 which was, just a badge) have basically come from Homologation rules. I understand what you are saying about Ford needing to make money, but they also need more of their sporting heritage back and they know they have a damm good chance of not only WRX with this thing, but the possibility of touring cars (not just the BTCC but European challenges).

Ford won the WRX this year, and did it with a rally to go. They know they will need to be more competitive next year and you watch the marketing done on the back of this during the year. It will be massive.

Base Price ST3 - £19,995
Electric Orange Paint - £695.00
Park Assist - £200.0
Key Free - £350.00
Premium BlueTooth Kit - £300.00

That gives you a list of £21,540.00 for the basic options. Ive not included the voice activated malarky, or the dual zone air conditioning.

But what you also have to remember, Ford are doing very nicely thank you from the company car market on the ST. The volume sales will always come from that. The RS will not really be big in that market, unless you are an opt out person that wants to spend £25k on the RS.

I agree, saying £25,000 on a focus sounds mad - but spending £25,000 on a 320 BMW is mad to me (personally) as I hate them with a passion.

You never heard of "pre production test cars"????

Manufacturers dont want everyone knowing what they car will look like. What this is is basically a "mule" car - as the wording says, add a few more spoilers on it, different wheels etc and it will be the RS.

The only indication of a difference on this spy photo is the front grill...

You must have seen the car pictures with all the camaflauge on surely.....

These guys were probably just testing engines - remember, ford havent even announced they are going to launch it yet...

Could just have been a mental car tuning nut out for a spin in his max powered german plated focus!!!!

But the rumours about the RS team working on this car have been around for a long time - and Ford have already said officially that the RS badge will be back very very soon...

Everyone said that the GT40 show car was a publicity stunt when they first saw that - and that comes out of the same division.....

£140k for a ford? YES PLEASE!

with a 2.5 litre 5 pot? i'd like to see them try...

What do you think is in the current WRX winning Focus then?

Engine:
Ford 1998cc Pipo built I4 Duratec WRC engine. Four cylinders, 16 valves.Bore 85mm. Stroke 88mm. Pi electronic engine management system. Garrett turbocharger (with FIA required 34 mm inlet restrictor). Air intercooler. Catalytic converter.

Power:
300 bhp at 6000 rpm

Thats the spec currently.....

dunno, i don't follow wrc :p

i always thought there was a 2.0 litre maximum displacement rule?

There is currently, but maybe Ford know this is going to change in the next couple of years. With all the money that the Motor Manufacturers are putting in Id expect the engine sizes to go up soon.

And the 2.5 engine in the S40 Volvo has been tuned over 300BHP in loads of cars, and Im pretty sure thats the ford block...

Why is it going to change?

Current rally cars are running with about 340bhp anyway, if they didnt have airflow restrictors on there to limit the power output this figure would be much higher.
The WRC engineers are more concerned with developing an engine that has the widest power curve. The quoted 300bhp is available from 3000rpm all the way to the redline.

im shocked they wouldnt do anything.

When I first heard rumours of a Fiesta ST/RS a while back I went straight to ford to ask if the RS was going to be limited run, and if so, Id put 1k down on it straight away as long as it was fully refundable.

I was told there was a good chance a Fiesta RS would appear, but the ST was definate, and that I could put 1k down on that.

didnt bother, and asked for a test drive when it came out. Was a good job I didnt tbh !

IMO, the Fiesta RS is more likely to appear before the Focus RS.....
