How the hell does music like this make it out of a recording studio?

This.

Someone could quite easily come along and say your tastes are terrible. 9/10 you'd be offended. Reverse and repeat. People like what they like, even if you don't like it.

Ain't gon' change!

What's this rubbish you've got on?
It's T.Rex
It's Zeppelin
It's The Sex Pistols
It's Slayer
and so on ........

I have no right to knock other peoples tastes when I listen to the stuff I like.

I did have a couple of experiences though around the age of 22 while playing in a Club band.
Somebody approached me and asked for a certain song and I basically put it down. A few weeks later I did the same thing but this bloke was waiting for me outside because he was so offended. I swore from that day I would never put down a persons musical taste and gladly accept all forms of music.
I may have a laugh on here putting down Coldplay, Radiohead and RHCP but I also accept they all have some great tunes.

Is this a sign of where humanity is heading?

There has always been rubbish music. Just look at the 90s with greats such as Billie, Daphne & Celeste and that barbie girl song, then every other band was a cookie cutter boy band. Personally I think music is actually improving if anything.

Ha, I had a look on youtube for it to see how bad it was and found this :D. I doubt Hotline bling would get quite as bad a reaction.

100% this, people need to go and re-watch old episodes of Top of The Pops, there is plenty of crap music on there.

Let alone on to the radio, the telly, and sometimes in to the charts

Look at Hotline Bling, this is quite possibly one of the worst songs I've ever heard, I've never heard anyone ask for it or say that they like it. The music video can't have cost more than a tenner to make, it's literally shot in one room with two people. It's an abomination. Yet it's on tv and the radio, so what gives? Are there actually people who enjoy this? Is this a sign of where humanity is heading? Or is it simply the radios forcing stuff down our throats?

I just don't get it. If I heard a couple of people say it's a good song then I could understand it but nobody I know likes it, maybe I'm not hip any more.

Dunno

Legit question btw, not trying to be a dumbass.

On topic, i love hotline bling. its brilliant, catchy and funny

I agree with the OP regarding chart music nowadays vs 1990s. Seeing artists having 5 entries in the top 40 really gets my goat. I know the download chart has caused this, but I really think there should be only 1 single per artist in the chart at any given time.

As for the song mentioned (Hotline Bling), I just looked it up on Youtube and I find it... meh. Something that easily could have been recorded in the late 90s / early 00s when the UK/2-step garage craze was in full swing. Quite liked the video though - it reminds me of some of the older James Bond theme songs with the black silhouetted figures against a colourful background.
