How to apply thermal paste?

I have just bought a E6850, K8V Deluxe and a Scythe Ninja and I just wondered when you apply the thermal paste. Do you apply it on the proccessor before you mount it to the motherboard or afterwards, or do you put it on the heatsink like the one which is supplied with the CPU. Also how much do people put on, and how do you spread it?

Thanks, David

for the dual cores artic 5 shows a line down the middle of the cpu, in the correct direction so that i cover both cores, check the instructions at www.articsilver.com , i know you have a different paste but i should imagine it will be the same principle.

Heh.. funny that, while quite not the same a few years ago i had a funny case of a K6-3+ 450 not getting to 630MHz with 2.2v and passing prime95 unless i put quite a lot of compound on the IHS, went against the norm but not a whole tube though :D

p.s didn't have to use quite as much when i cut off the IHS :p

Oh dear! :D

Goop all over your PCB

There is just no need for that amount.

The smaller ammount the better.

I want pics....

In fact I demand pics! :D

I did my thermal paste exactly as AS5 said, a strip down the middle.

27 idle
