How To Back Up Windows Live Mail

Anybody help me with that one. All Google searches seem to point to software, is there a manual way to do it?

Back up in what way?

If you mean messages, I just drag and drop them into a folder. When I tried the export option and re-imported them the messages wouldn't work.
