Hi Guys,

Got a friend with a WM5 PDA who needs to backup his data before he sends it back to be fixed. The main info is his contacts and for the life of us we cant work out how to backup all of them in one go.

I would assume you can do it via ActiveSync but it appears to not be recognised when connected it seems. The File Explorer just doesnt seem to find the relevant folder which I guess is hidden or something. There must be a backup program that can do all this for you.

Any ideas how we can do this? Id also like to know how you would do it on WM6 just in case :)

TIA

What does ActiveSync not recognise, the PDA?
You'll need to get the AS partnership working first.

Easiest way is to backup to Outlook on a PC.

There are some 3rd party apps which backup the everything including contacts. Try SPB Backup, comes with a free trial, I think it's 30 days. SPB Backup will save all installed apps + settings + contacts into a self executing restore file which you can save on a mem card or use AS to transfer to a PC.

When he gets the PDA back he just needs to copy the file back to the PDA and run. Because the backup file is an executable he won't even need to install SPB Backup on his new PDA.

Yup, try SPB backup.

You can make a complete image of the PDA and store onto the memory card or backup certain areas like My Documents or in this case, Outlook.

Its a great app. I've got mine to automatically create an image once a week.

Cheers - thought it would - only problem I have now is that Activesync just doesnt want to work - keep getting a device driver Code 10 issue when I connect either phone :(.

Tried to reinstall it a couple of time without any luck - can you just bluetooth the Sprite Installer onto the phone and run it from there and bluetooth the backup files back?

Just dont get why AS wont work and given up - next resort is probably reinstalling XP :(

I suspect me having AS 4 before might not have helped - anyway of totally uninstalling AS as that might help - dunno if I cba to look through the registry editor...

In Active Sync, go and terminate the partnership with the handset.

On the handset, go into Active Sync > Menu > Option > Highlight the PC you have it synced with and hit delete.

Re-boot both PC and handset, connect the handset and see if that fixes the problem.

Make sure you have the very latest version of Active Sync if using XP. If using Vista, go here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/devicecenter.mspx
