How to blag a test drive?

 When you discover the real world you will find out that it really is the case. People are petty.

Given Fox's uncanny influence over the OcUK car buying public, I'd go as far as to say it's in any main franchised dealer's interest to make sure he gets treated well!
Fox is like the Clarkson of OCUK :D (and I mean that in the nicest possible way)

im never the first to agree with Fox but he's right

when you're on about salesman making snap first impression judgements of you, driving up in a BMW 5 series puts you higher in the pecking order than the 18 year old in a golf.

I'm not claiming to :/ Anyway I think you'll find not many people will disagree with Fox's statement. It is quite true.

The fact is it shouldn't matter but first impressions count, though it depends where you pull up and the plates on Fox's car. Any good car salesman would see £10K trade in first...

I got something simmular when I pulled up in my '05' MIni when I was car shopping. The first thing they said was "will you be trading in the Cooper S", shame it was not a Cooper S really lol ;)

S'quite funny this, we've never test driven any of the cars we've bought....The Merc, the Jeep (new!), the Lexus, the Focus, any of my Triumphs (well, one), the Rover, all no test-drive affairs.

Bizarre!

Guess we're just a family of chancers :D

have to agree with Fox...many salesmen, cars or otherwise, are that superficial and shallow.
even when talking about court appearances the principle applies.
dressing smartly makes you look more "respectable".

anyhoo, back OT.
arrange a test drive in advance over the phone.
A) saves you looking like a tool should the dealer act like one and refuse you.
B) gives the impression you're more serious and not just a "tyre-kicker".

My local Honda dealer said their insurance wouldn't cover anyone under 25 to test drive their cars.

I was offered a test drive on Civic Type R without even asking at 19 years old and I was in my mates old K10 micra at the time.

Good advice, I'd almost forgotten what I'd asked! My most exciting thread yet :p

I have had some wierd exeriences, like OP's had a hard time trying to test drive a car I was actually interested it buying, yet when the wife and I went to test drie an Audi TT sport 250 for a laugh, they gave us the keys and asked i we minded bringing it back in a couple of hours :)

Used about half a tank of fuel as well :D

Booked a test drive for tomorrow at 1pm :)

I'm so excited because I've never driven anything even half decent before.

I only hope I get to go alone so I can take it home and take some pictures of me in it...

in fact on second thoughts dont bloody bother,

at least have the intention of buying before you go blagging ;)
