How to cash a cheque without using bank account

As above guys how does this work I take it it can just be taken to a branch of the issuing bank with Id? Is there any limits regarding amounts that can be cashed like this?
 
does it say "AC Payee only" or similar on it?

If its a personal cheque it almost certainly will and AFAIK it will have to paid into an account.
 
Don't know it's in the post but I'd rather not have this going through my account
 
lets just say its for services rendered and for a decent amount, with a wedding anniversary coming up it would be nice to have a sum of liquid cash that the wife doesnt know about :)

I have a similar question.

Can you cash a government issued cheque from another country (for example, Canada) with a Lloyds account or with the post office or something?
 
If it's for the reason you posted, just open a current account somewhere and pay it in

If your 'wife' in this story is actually HMRC then that's a different story entirely...

very similar,

i get to **** one once a year and get ****ed by the other once a year also :)


but unfortunately its the real wife in this case, i really dont want to go to the hassle of opening a seperate account just to hide a cheque just looking for options to get my hands on the cash in a "discrete" ie the wife doesnt find out way :)
 
So basically you want all the money to yourself, so your wife doesn't find out, as you probably have a bank account together. Open up a separate account, list the statements as online only, and cash it in. Once you take out the money, close the account.
