hiya all. bought a gigabyte DS3 to go with an 805 i had spare.

this morning i tried to clock it and just decidec to go for broke.

i increase the vcore to 1.4 and increased the fsb to 200. this worked fine and now runs @ 4ghz

prob is, anything over this results in no boot. even just 201 fsb.

i figure maybe i should drop the cpu multi down a notch and take it from there but i cant find an option to do this in the bios (even with ctrl+F1)

i have options for the fsb etc as well as pci-e freq and so forth.

someone said its called "CPU Clock Ratio" but i dont have that option in the F4 bios.

carp.

(and yes i have hit ctrl+F1) :p

shouldnt i still get the option in the menu

so any advice on getting this past 4gig? i want to try and get as high as i can really

I have the same processor and find the same.
It boots at 4Ghz but no chance at any higher.
Only really stable at 196FSB too.

i am starting to think its the mobo tho.

its doing weird things. i'm trying to install windows on it but even tho the drives i've used have fat 32 or ntfs partitions on it, the installation of XP doesnt recognise it as valid for windows. the same is true even after deleting the partition and creating a new one

this is for a partition that had XP on it on a diff PC. tried on pata and sata drives that are fine in other pcs and have had windows on them at various points. tried diff sata/ide cables and still the same

tried the same cd i always used to install XP and even downloaded one in case mine went weird - still the same.

EDIT

forgot to mention that it wont let me update the bios either. tried through the bios - it finds the file on my floppy drive but says its the wrong size. when i try through a boot cd going to dos it just opens the program, goes through the motions and nothing happens.

the bios is still F5 when all is done.

i've tried this with the bios on a floppy and a cd. both checked and read fine, no errors on either. for some reason the mobo just wont update it.

any chance my mobo is borked?

i managed to get mine to boot at 200mhz , but not stable, get throttlewatch to see if its running fine under stress or not.
Currently got mine running at 3.6ghz everything fine.
If i stuck arctic silver on instead of the normal "padding" that was on the bottom of Freezer Pro7 will that lower the temp atall so i can clock higher? or will it just waste my time!

update

replaced it with an asus P5B deluxe and now alls fine.

this board let me install windows and update the bios without any hassle.
