How to change windows 7 background picture to my own?

In windows xp it was simple in win 7 there seems to be no option all to use own image, just different colors are available.

What to do please ta?

Right click on screen then click personalise. Then click on Desktop Background at the bottom. You can now browse for the place your desired background picture is saved.

If you search the internet you can also customise the background picture of the logon screen.

Right click the desktop, click personalize, click desktop background (at the bottom)

Or just go to the picture, right click, set as desktop background. Simples.

You don't get the other options doing it that way though.

True, but it's a nice quick way of doing it. And it could be just me but not all of my pictures appear under Personalise -> Desktop background.

Awesome guys thanks. FIrst day using windows 7. BTW is there a way, like in win xp, to set windows for performance and not visuals? ta

Yes, but as the Aero UI is rendered on the GPU, it won't actually free up any CPU time.

Because Win XP used the CPU more than the GPU. For 7 Aero uses the GPU. You can turn off Aero for extra performance but honestly that makes 7 ugly.

Yep it most definitely did make XP faster, but 7 is a completely different operating system. If it does seem faster it's probably a placebo effect. The performance mode (depending on which options you deselect) will actually start using your CPU to render UI elements and it will make it slower.

Right click My Computer> Properties.
On the left, click "Advanced System Settings"
Under Performance, click "Settings".

I had the same preconception about Win 7 Aero, but after some use I learned that having all the bells and whistles turned on didn't have any effect on the actual performance of the Windows desktop.
