Hi,

I have just tried to clean my Hoya Super HMC filter, I am using lens cleaning fluid and cleaning tissues. It seems to have left smears all over it and i cant get rid of them. How do you clean your filters? What with?

Thanks for the help

J

Sounds like you used a bit much to me. You get the smears when the fluid drys, rather than being soaked up by the tissues. Use just a small drop or two and then wipe it around with the tissue in circles, using a second is necessary to get it dry.

I use a lens pen, which I bought from a high street camera store. It has a brush one end, and a non-liquid carbon-like compound the other end, which you brush across the lens or filter. It just cleans it absolutely spotless with no residue left over and no smearing. I thought I was quite good at getting smearless finishes with lens cleaning fluid, but my first clean with the lens pen really showed up all the marks on the lenses and filters. Wouldn't be without it now, it's fantastic.

LOL, clever but rather cumbersome. microfibre cloth plus some fluid is fine.

I found that even after using fluid and cloth there was still a hazy residue sometimes and the 3M did the trick. Very good with oily marks for some reason.
