Argh.... i thought this was gonna be a thread about how you blew something up and melted all your house wiring or something.

Disappointed tbh.

Gore-tex is a fantastic material for blacking out windows. super strong too. whether or not you can get it commercially is another question, i only managed to get some because i have a friend that worked at the fabrics plant

You can get blackout curtains in shops, how good these are i dont know, and maybe just tape the edges to keep out any stray light.

My bedroom blind is made out of a material which is really thick and perfectly blacks out the light, not sure where you'd find it though, but it does a bloody good job.

Sleep in the broomcupboard, or brick up your windows.

But that felt idea with velcro on the side of the windows is a top idea !!!

I have a blackout curtain, but the light still pours in from the sides and top/bottom :(

Huge bits of MDF, just nail them over the windows to the wall. Then you can jazz them up a bit by doing a bit of John Squiresque paint splattering over them.
:D

Paint the window black, then cover it up in felt or something :)

My guess it's a living room as well, so I think permanently blocking out the windows isn't such a great idea. Venetian blinds plus thick curtains should block out all light.

Blackout curtains, plenty of them on ebay.

Obviously depends on the room, if you have a skylight you're shafted and even with blackout curtains light can still seep in and it only takes a little to spoil the picture.

One option which I found useful was to become nocturnal.

Go to a Photography shop, ;) should be able to get blackout window kits for darkrooms...... hey not everyone is completely digital :p
I made my own (for a darkroom) used Velcro around the edges onto batten fixed to the window frame, then used some plastic sheet.... Haven't fogged any paper or film yet !!

Remember that watching TV/films in complete darkness is bad for your eyes, that is why cinemas still have low ambient light even when the film is showing. I mounted my screen over the bay window in my room which blocks out 2/3 of the light in the room, the other window just has a wood venetian blind, which doesn't really effect my Optoma HD72i much as it's a bright projector. Oh and youstolemyname, did you use a flash to take that picture :p

I too have an Optoma HD72i and I also am looking to black out my room. It is the living room but its dark most of the time anyway so blacking it out wont make much difference. the velcro and felt idea is the best I have noticed in ages.. Might pass the idea on to the missus and see what she thinks..
