Got ahold of some fillet steak and planning to cut it into chunks and fry them for use in a spaghetti bolognese. Is this a good idea or sacrilege?

Sacrilege!! You don't put fillet steak in a bloomin' bolognese! Just flash-griddle it and eat it with your hands :p

You are joking? :/

Salt and pepper. Slap it in an unfeasibly hot griddle pan with a couple of smashed cloves of garlic. When done dosh on a knob of butter to mop up the juiced out the pan, swill it around to coat and tip the lot onto a plate. Let stand for about 5 minutes and serve.

Get rib eye next time though. Boy that's a good bit of steak.

Not gonna microwave it! If i still wanted to use it for that though would it be better to cook it whole and then chop it up or otherway around. Just bought all the other ingriedients for the meal. (Although their combined cost was less than the steak).

lol i was hoping jonny69 would post thank god you did ;)

you were about to commit meat crime

Put a little bit of olive oil on each side and add some freshly crushed black pepper and sea salt. Leave for 10 minutes.

Heat the pan up until it's very hot and then 3 minutes each side.

Eat with other food and rarrgh you're sorted.

Think I'll take jonny69's advice, don't want waste expensive meat. I'll probably make the sauce aswell but serve it separately with pasta.

Worst.

Thread.

EVAR.

You don't deserve that fillet tbh - I'll email you my address and you can post it to me 2nd class, should be ready for cooking when it arrives :D

Thanks for the post jonny69, i'll take your advice.

The pan should be smoking to cook a steak. If you put garlic in there it'll just burn and be horribly bitter. My preference for cooking a steak is nothing special, exactly the way it should be:

- Drop of olive oil in griddle pan
- Leave on full heat until well and truly smoking smoking
- Half a clove of garlic and rub it on either side of the steak
- Drop the steak in the pan, leave for 1 minute (don't touch it!)
- Season with plenty of salt & pepper
- Flip the steak
- A bit more salt & pepper
- Leave for 1 minute, add a good knob of butter and use a spoon to douse the steak in it as it melts
- Take the steak out of the pan and leave to rest for at least 2-3 minutes. If you dont do this even the best cut of steak will be chewy
- Eat

Easy :) Reminds me, i must remember to post my potato gratin recipe to go with it. It's heaven

Cook as above (less any garlic recipies).
Have pre-buttered bread, half a lemon and finely chopped spring onion ready on your chopping board.
Dice the cooked steak, arrange generously over the buttered bread, squeeze of lemon, pinch of salt, dash of spring onion.

Eat sandwich.

Profit.
