Microsoft's Windows Vista operating system is a mighty paradox. On the one hand, it's more robust and feature-rich than any of its predecessors. For the most part, it's also more secure and is immune to many pretty sophisticated takedown attempts. But it's got one nasty Achilles' Heel, which'll enable you to crash the OS in under 10 seconds. Here's the deal: One of the simplest command sequences you can think of will take Vista down completely. Hold down the Windows key and the letter "E" for 10 seconds or so. After opening up Windows Explorer windows ad infinitum, your system will stop responding.

I just tryed doing this for about 5 seconds or less and i had to turn my system off by the PSU power switch and restart it...

it just keeps on opening about a million new windows...

Oh dear. Is this not like saying, 'open 4000 instances of word and it'll crash' ? That'd probably happen in XP too.

Hmm, Just did it for 10 seconds. I've got about a million explorer windows open but the system is running surprisingly well considering. It took a while at first as it opened them all, but afterwards it was ok.

I think I already mentioned that clicking on a mail;to link twice as nothing happened the first time results in the millions of IE windows. It doesn't crash though and the new windows stop coming, eventually, and they can be killed off.

Alternatively as a sure fire way of losing anything you've been working on in say Word or Excel for the past half an hour.
Press and hold the power button on the front of your case for approx. 4 -5 seconds.

This is not Vista crashing this is deliberate repeated user input overloading the system resources.

I could click start programs and open everything until the machine falls over.

Same efect.

Proves the point that 90% of computer problems are caused by the space between the front of the monitor, and the seatback.

Also proves that people just don't seem to like Vista. I've noticed nyself that you can have wildly varying experiences with it. On my old system (opteron 146 and DFI Ultra-D) it was awkward, LAN problems, not suspending right etc. With the new board/ram/cpu it's flawless. Typical new OS syndrome for me, nothing more.
