How to create a image of a iMac hard drive ?

Good Evening

I have a iMac computer, well 17 of them to be honest

I am in the process of building the master image for the iMac ready to be deployed to the other 7 iMac's (with some help lol )

Once i have finished installing all the software what's the "mac" way of creating a whole system image ?

Is it in the Disk Utility program ? what type of file should it be.

I think last time i did this i sent the hard drive master image to a external hard drive then copied it to the mac mini server which we then deployed to the others on the network, network booting them holding down the "n" key i thing it was.

Any info/advice/links to anything about building and deploying mac images would be greatly appreciated

The proper Apple way of deploying images to multiple clients is using Apple Software Restore (ASR), this is what I used to use for our Mac lab.

However we now use Symantec Ghost as it now supports HFS and all our Macs use Intel processors.
