How to deter cats and dogs from dumping on my lawn?

about 6 sonic cat deterrents. About 30 from b&Q or £10 each on ebay. Expensive but they seem to work. But You need a few to cover your garden depending on size.
 
They also have scent sticks on the bay which might work better than the spray. that seems to deter them for a few hours only.
 
I would agree with the various suggestions for some kind of ultrasonic gadget.

But i'm also wondering if something like sprinkling ground black pepper or something else spicy would make it overpower the dog/cat's nose and deter them that way?
 
You can get green crystals, called "Get Off" or get off my lawn, you can get them in garden centre, but i found them at £1 per bottle in Home Bargains.

Has worked very well for me.
