I see some people have been getting tax rebates etc, how can I tell if I have been taxed too much?

Given that I do overtime which can be different each month

If all your taxes have been paid through the PAYE system, then your total income should have been available to HMRC and they would have calculated the difference between what you should have paid and what you did pay.

If you want to check, then simply add up all your payslips and calculate what you should have paid in the tax year compared to what you did pay.

It's unlikely they made a mistake unless the amount you earnt changed during the year. If you get a bonus then you may also have overpaid.

If youve changed wage over the year or moved into a different job with a different wage surely youd only maybe be paying too tax if you moved into a new tax band?

Should get a letter, I got one the other day explaining how much I'd been overtaxed and got a cheque about a day later for the rebate.

That reminds me, I'm still on BR for current job and was overtaxed in last job!

The only thing thats changed really is getting an extra £2400 a year for doing a week on call each month

Assuming your payroll department are awake, you almost certainly won't have been overtaxed if it's just one job that you've been doing all year.
