How to fix this?

I installed Windows on my new SSD I got back today but I forgot to unplug the HDD I was using when installing it, and according to threads online some boot files were written to the HDD which is difficult to remedy and some of the help answers people have given are hard to understand.

I can boot to the SSD when the HDD is plugged in but I'm putting the HDD in another computer and the SSD won't boot on it's own.

Instead of going around in circles trying to fix it I've decided to do another frsh install on the SSD.

My question is is this the best way to go about it or should I remedy it using 3rd party programs?

If a fresh install is the best option do I need to erase all the data on the SSD or can it be overwritten.

All the programs and guides I've found say to secure erase it but this involves writing 0's to the whole drive and according to others this will limit the drives lifespan.

What will I do?

Have you tried putting in your windows dvd and doing a start up repair with just the ssd installed?

A secure erase doesn't limit the drives lifespan, you might be fine doing a normal format and reinstall, trim will restore any lost performance over time

Ah ok, there's an option to do it in OCZ toolbox ok.

Do you mean:

Power off, unplug HDD, set boot order to 1. PATA-DVD and 2. OCZ SSD? I'm trying to follow things in disk management and i'm confused.com.

So when it boots just do a repair install then? I want to unplug the HDD and keep it incase SSD fails again, will this have any adverse effect on the boot files that got stored to HDD? Do I have to make any drives active or inactive before any of this? Thanks for speedy reply

No just power down unplug hdd,set in BIOS or press one of the f buttons for boot menu and boot from dvd drive with windows disk and do start up repair, that might fix the boot up with your ssd

UPDATE: After trying a repair install it told me there was no problem and to reboot, same issue again. Ran repair install again and it let me into the menu's this time, chose a startup repair, let it do it's thing and it worked!

Ty for the help Wazza.

EDIT: I just ran CrytalDiskMark and my read/write speeds are 217/264 mb/s. I have AHCI mode enabled in the BIOS and the SSD is connected to port SATA 3_0 which is the optimal port. Any ideas on why speeds are so slow?
