How to get airmiles

I have the privelege of flying from Heathrow to Djibouti via business class! :D

Do I get airmiles, and how do I collect them? Also - it is being booked through work, so I have it all ready for me.

Never flown business before... excited!
 
Pretty sure my Dad gets most of his from using the BA American Express Card. I've just flown back from Chicago via Business Class for less than the price of an Economy seat and it's nice to have the extra room :D.
 
You need to sign up to whatever airline you are flying withs frequent flyer program. Present that number when you check in to get credited with the miles.
 
I don't think you can collect Avios on Ethiopian Airlines. They have a frequent flyer programme themselves - not sure if the miles are exchangeable for miles with other airlines in the same alliance - which is Star Alliance.
 
If they are star alliance i'd advise just signing up with them. The miles would be much better off there than in some Ethiopian scheme.

I'm a big star alliance miles collector and, unlike the useless miles with Virgin and BA, Star alliance miles are really really good.
 
Does anyone know what a qaulify stay at best western hotels is classed as? I can't see it on the website, just depending which company you go with 250-500 air miles per qualified stay.
One of the hotels I stay in with work has just become a best western. ATM get around 7500 points a week and there about 2 weeks a month. Which is a £15 amazon voucher for each week there. Wich isn't to shabby. But wondering if its worth changing to air miles.,
Want to go to Russia in 2014 and do a few flights, how do air miles actually work?
 
Take a look at some of the Avios reward credit cards. In the past 4-5 months I have racked up over 120k Avios and also bagged a companion voucher as well. You do pay tax on the flights though.

A stay is usually classed as one booking.

So say you were booked for 3 nights in a row they would count as one stay.

I've noticed some of the reward schemes I'm on started saying stays rather than nights as thresholds for awards as I guess it takes longer for most to accumulate stays rather than nights.

Makes no odds for me though as I only usually do one night at a time :)

Also see if the rewards scheme has any sort of fast track to a higher status as that can earn you more points in the long run. For instance with Marriott you can take a 'challenge' whereby if you have 6 stays in 90 days you get gold status for the remainder of the year you earn it in and all of the following.
 
Thanks, yep finally found it, it is per stay, regardless of nights. So would only get ~2 stays a month. So 1000 air miles a minth, but what does an air mile translate to? How many do you actually need for a flight.

Also it says AIR MILES® will earn 20 reward miles per stay, so on that scheme does an air mile actually translate to one air mile so a 20 mile flight would be free (apart from taxes)


Edit - found flying blue scheme
30,000 points needed for return to Moscow. That would take ~60 months. And only worth £160.
I'll stick with amazon vouchers, worth many times that.
