Lookin at going for a weekend away back end of july with a load of mates, but don't really fancy the 4 hour drive up, does anyone know if there are any cheap train tickets or other ways to get up there?

I've had a look on the usual thetrainline but best I can find is £80+ for a off peak open return do the cheap singles not go on sale this far in advance?

national express coming in at just over £50 which is better but that means spending 7 hours on a coach don't think I could cope with that!

As has been said, cheaper train tickets won't have been released yet for July. I had to wait until January to book tickets for April so 3 months sounds right.

Can't seem to find advanced singles online yet. Trainline will often suggest using the CrossCountry service which has no changes however I've found it cheaper to look around a bit.

A train to York shouldn't cost much more than a £5, then it's possible to get an East Coast train directly from York to Edinburgh for as cheap as £12
