How to get my G.Skill at 800Mhz?

The RAM is supposed to run at 800Mhz, I can't actually get it there. It's G.Skill, if I'm overclocking my processor the computer won't boot with 800Mhz, but it will with a ratio of 1:1 which underclocks the RAM to 533Mhz. Is there anyway I can get the RAM speed up or will I need to bring the FSB down? I'm confused about how it all works.

Voltage is 2.1V, with default timings set 5-5-5-15.

Thankyou.

It's probably not your memory causing the problem, unless you've been unlucky enough to get bad ram. I've had no problems getting the memory to go well past 800Mhz, which means an actual frequency of 400Mhz but double pumped. I'm at 991Mhz atm and the memory will go past 1000Mhz but with loose timings.

What is your tRC set at? (you can check this in CPU-Z) At 400Mhz the SPD sets it to 24. Maybe you've got that set too low?

I've got the RAM running at 1:1 with my FSB at 378Mhz, so it's now at 533Mhz and the tRC is at 19 by the SPD, I might loosen the timings because Orthos failed last night after 3 hours, I just don't know what I'm doing wrong here.

If you have your ram at a 1:1 ratio with your FSB your memory will be running at 378Mhz not 533Mhz so assuming that this is maybe a typo? In any case what you should do is keep at a 1:1 ratio until you've maxed out your CPU overclock. Then you can try increasing the ram to CPU ratio and maxing out your memory overclock. BTW, a tRC of 19 at 533Mhz is way too tight.

This is assuming that you're overclocking of course. If you're not it could be that some of the memory divisors on your motherboard are not that stable.

Finally, if you only want to run your ram at 400Mhz 1.8v should be fine for that.

Thanks for the help, it's really helped me so far. It seems the timings with the ratio at 1:1 weren't helping. I had it by the SPD, which set 5-5-3-6. I loosened them to 5-5-5-15 and I'm getting a lot better results.

In CPU-Z the ram is running at 379Mhz, would 379x2 = 758 = DDR2 speed?

Thanks again :).

5-5-5-15 at 400Mhz is about right. Those other timings you had were really too aggressive - no wonder you had trouble with stability.

Correct.

Thanks again :).
Anytime mate. :)
