Hi all.

Been on my IDE hard drive for ages now. I plugged in sata hard drive, pressed F6 and used the sata drivers from a floppy drive and loaded sata raid drivers for xp. I seen my old ide and new sata one in the winxp install screen so selected to install on new one...It installed very fast (7mins) but when i reboot, it asks me which win xp i want to load.

Thing is, when i load the xp that my sata is installed to. My sata drive is not drive C....so its not the boot drive, its like its a slave or something?

If i take my IDE drive out and leave the sata one in, windows wont boot, says something like i need to insert a bootable media. In BIOS it says theres no sata drive detected on Sata1 , which is the port i plugged into.

What have i messed up? In win xp install screen it did lable my sata drive as "ide2"

Help !

Take all the drives out(or at least unplug them all) including cardreaders etc. Then plug in the drive you want as C, and install windows on it. Once windows is installed then you can plug the other drives back in.

You might need to load the SATA drivers from a floppy then. Ive never had to, but certain motherboards require it.

I put the floppy disk in, i had 3 options, the xp one said sata raid drivers, so thats what i used.

My mobo is the ASrock Duel Sata board. :(

Nice one, i spent months trying to get windows working on my rig, it turned out that i was loading the drivers correctly etc but the sata drive was plugged into the wrong controller :D

I've had trouble before where Windows changes the drive i install on to D. Solved it by doing what messiah khan suggested below, unplug all other drives ;)
