Am i right in saying that i have to install raid drivers for sata to work on my HDD? Am i also right in saying that this can only be installed througha floppy drive as i don't have one at the moment.
I can get my HDD to work at the moment but only in IDE mode which seems stupid saying it is SATAII as is my motherboard.

thanks in advance

OK, you don't need RAID drivers just to get SATA working. The IDE mode your running in is an emulation mode which allows the drive to be seen by windows without the need for extra drivers at install time. It'll be running in at least SATA 1 mode (150Mb/s), depending on the drive & board it may well be in SATA 2 mode (300Mb/s). Just remember those are the theoretical maximum signalling speeds of the modes, your drive won't be able to saturate even the SATA1 bus. You may however see a slight benefit from the native command queuing and other new features in SATA2.

What board and drive are you using?

its an asrock conroexfire sataII board with a 7200.10 200gb.
Should i set the drive to something other than IDE to get it working then?

thanks

On my sata 7200.10 250s , see the pins on the back of the hard drive? take out that little gromet connection thing , make sure the hard drive is plugged into a sata slot sata 1 for example. Go into bios and make sure its set as your primary hard drive or boot hard drive. Ofcause this depends on if u want it as os or games or whatever
