How to get that M4 exhaust note..

I meant that you very rarely see 'tuned' Saabs, as they are very much the librarian of the car world (or as I said.....were)

As you don't really associate a Saab with performance, having a 'sporty' exhaust note just seems a bit......wrong......on a car like that.

Just my 2c

Your second statement isn't really true, more a sign of the times with SAAB automobiles now being defunct. Petrolheads will remember SAAB had a long performance car history; they put a Garret turbo charger in a SAAB 99 back in 1978! 145hp in a normal production car 42 years ago! The 99 even won a couple of WRCs.

Such enthusiasts will also remember the SAAB 900 turbo, the Turbo 16, the Carlsson and the latter 93 Viggen and the 95 Aero HOT. Very much performance orientated and they had a very loyal following in their day.

I had a 95 Aero back in the day and thought it was a great, if quirky car. Huge midrange acceleration, whilest being very comfortable and compliant. There were lots of tuning options back then, especially in Europe. I took the Aero down to Abbot Racing and had it tuned with a full stainless steel exhaust added. Over 300bhp, but still completely discrete. It wasn't a slouch before but went like a missile now. Never had any trouble from it in the years that passed.

I miss SAAB, I wonder what dentists and architects drive today?

@naefeart You posted pretty much what I was going to say.
I genuinely miss Saab, they were great.

As for your final point my uncle (arch) drives a RR and my dentist a 911.

Haha, how times have changed. The motoring industry is a poorer place without SAAB, but their individuality couldn't have survived what GM was doing to them anyway.

I'd love my Scania R450 six pot to sound like a R730 V8 (Both with their roots with SAAB back when SAAB was great) its just never going to happen....

This thread has just diverted me onto Youtube in search of fruity SAAB's - I've found some crazy things - the tuning scene for these was and indeed still is big - but, the only one that sounds remotely like an M4 is a six pot albeit a V6.
OP, the route you seek is simple, you get the M4 exhaust note by getting an M4....

Absolutely, they diluted and neutralised the quirks all of which was what was great about SAAB which effectively killed it.

In the later years they went safety crazy though, a bit like Volvo have. Probably what killed them off :p
