The people who say PCM sounds different in WAV or FLAC format have a screw loose and make themselves believe there's a difference. Sometimes it seems like it's done for the sake of argument and it just becomes asinine. You could do a blind test and tell them that this sound is that and this and their arrogance will determine what they hear. I agree with one thing though, you can't prove what people see/hear in there heads.

It's pretty much the same thing seen with the HDMI cable.

I've not used FLAC before, but the fact that it's compressed means that it's not lossless else it'd be the full file size instead of smaller. There's obviously something being taken out of it else that wouldn't be possible.

That's almost sigworthy. Post that in the Windows forum and they'd be like

The point I was trying to make is parts of audio are very subjective and while the burden of proof does lie with those who make outlandish claims, you cannot simply dismiss them as being wrong.

this is a guy peddling a broken version of foobar2000 v0.83 on the head-fi forums saying it has superior sound. he's compiled several different versions which you can download depending on what instruction set your cpu supports. it's completely broken because it won't let users change preferences and of course it's horribly out of date. the head-fi regulars are lapping it up like morons. it only supports wav and people keep begging him to add flac support. this is his reply....

Flac won't sound as good as wav,

because additional processing time will cause jitter.

jitter is the biggest sound killer in digital audio



You may do a test by yourself:

Make 2 flacs, one uses level 8 compression,the other one uses level 1 compression.

Listen them carefully, you may hear the difference...

I hear differences in audio all the time, even when there is no physical change in the source.

I also happen to acknowledge that what I perceive is not necessarily what I am hearing and futhermore, my perception of sound is not always consistent.

Thombassmonkey has clearly failed to grasp this concept.
