A snow day here today as predicted so I’ve been hard at work.
WD40 worked! It greatly assisted in the helping the bulb coming away from its fitting... After swearing mildly, I unclipped the fitting and detached it from the wires. My initial impressions (which ended up being proved correct) were that it was a bayonet bulb but the damn thing wouldn’t push down and turn. I ended up accidentally breaking off the part of the plastic fitting that looked like a screw which exposed part of the bayonet. After messing about with pliers, a screwdriver and a lot of rust, the bottom part of the bulb finally popped out.
I was a bit worried about the corrosion but it was limited to the bulb base. Popped the light fitting back on, tested it and it worked just fine.
The End
