How to I get my 2500k...

Ok I think I understand so it effectively 2 settings 1.6ghz when idle and max speed 3.3 with no values in between, e.g I am playing crysis which is a system beast and it needs all 3.3ghz, then I decide I am bored of playing crysis for taoday and I want to play solitaire, because the applciaiton is running ti would still increase to 3.3 even though this application is not as resource intensive as crysis ?

i think it can be any number in between, so depending on the load the cpu is under will affect the speed it runs.

Out of interest, if a sandy bridge was set to run, at say 4.6ghz 24/7, would it have an effect on load times

In particular, on boot times - as I believe it enters 'slow' mode when the loading logo appears?

Anyone seen any tests?

Cheers

I wouldn't have thought it would make any difference to boot times. It's hard to say though as I have an SSD for windows and have disabled the logo screen so mine just boots into windows in about 10 secs.

Haven't seen any tests to prove it though.

If the CPU needs to run at max for startup I imagine speedstep would kick in anyway tbh.

Don't you just hate when the OP doesn't even bother to post back or even say 'Thank you'?

Yes, and yours is about the only correct and accurate reply ;)

Basically, this is how it works

Enhanced speedstep will reduce speed and voltage (WHEN NOT REQUIRED)

Over temp protection throttling is not what speedstep is about.

Sandy bridge CPUs can be configured with some Motherboard/bioses to exceed TDP (thermal design power) and or time limited while running high (turbo) multipliers

Hope that helps

Guys let me apologise, I was having issues with my XFI digital in. (Xbox360)
I forgot about this thread, until now.
If I wanted to save “POWER” I would not have posted this. I want to test my new build.

Thanks for all the replies.
