I've been playing COD4 on my xp machine and have gotten to lvl 40. I just install the game on my vista machine. I've copied the "profile" folder from the xp pc to the vista pc. Pasted the profile folder into the COD4 folder but my profiles aren't showing?

I've even created new profiles but it won't create a profile folder. What to do? Really can't be bothered playing it to lvl 40 again.

I thought it would be as simple as copying the profile folder over, but its not. Plus, when i create a player in game, it doesn't create a profile folder. Need help.

Have you tried playing saving COD4 under Vista then finding where the profiles are supposed to be saved coz maybe you are putting in the wrong place. Look under:

\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\EA .... or something similiar

All my EA games seem to save the profile in there....in XP

Nope. Nothing in there. :(

Might be hidden to stop cheats etc ?? Just a thought., have you done a search for profile or call of duty etc might throw something up. Keep us informed though

Did that. Been to the top COD forums and searched there too. Seems im doomed to start from lvl 1 again.

When i re-installed XP, all i did was backup the folder of my profile and the 'active' text file and then replaced it after a clean install of the game. I made sure that i patched first and ran the game at least once to generate the correct folders upon startup.

Worked fine. Not sure why Vista is any different.

Same here. I just copied the profile over and it worked fine.

I did a reinstall on vista after having problems loading the third level, I also backed up the 'players' folder and just pasted it back in on reinstall and it worked fine

I have pasted the player folder which i had from the xp install into the main cod4 folder that is on vista. My profiles don't turn up. :( Even when i create a new profile, the player folder doesn't show up. Argh.

Re-install the game if you cant access any profiles at all. Then patch up, load up the MP and create a server on any map. Then in the 'players' folder in the main COD4 directory, paste your old profile and make sure that in the active text file, it replicates the name of the profile. :)

Thanks. I'll try that. I hope it works as I don't want to start from lvl1 again. It took me over 12 hours to get to lvl 40. lol. :D

If you're using VISTA and have the same problems as i had. Read this.

MISSING SAVED GAME FILE
Saved games (or other saved data) are easily accessible through the game when COD4:MW is installed. Once it has been deleted, if you have not deleted the saved information, you have to go to a specific directory.

If you are on XP, this is straightforward. You go to the folder where the game assets used to be stored (default is C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare) and look for the Players directory.
However, if you are running on Vista in a typical fashion (user mode with standard settings) you have to find the virtual store. This will depend on your username. You have to combine the path to the Virtual Store with the path from Program Files. In general terms this will be the following: [HDD]:\Users\\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare. In order to see the AppData folder, click on Start->Control Panel->Folder Options. Click on the view tab, then click Show hidden files and folders.

POTENTIAL SAVED GAMES PROBLEMS
When playing COD4:MW on a Windows(R)Vista system, there is the potential for Saved Games to "disappear" if you switch from Standard User level to Administrator level of security. This is because of how Vista deals with saving files into the Program Files directory. If a user saves games, which are typically stored under the Program Files directory (by default in C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\Players), they are not actually saved in that folder but in a Virtual Store. Windows(R) does this to protect the security of the Program Files folder, but allow legacy titles to continue to function on Windows(R)Vista.

However, when a person elevates to Administrative mode, the link to the Virtual Store will be broken and only files in the actual Saved Game directory (under Program Files) will be visible. Switching back to Standard User mode will restore the link. Interestingly, in user mode, both the files actually in the Saved Games folder and in the Virtual Store will all be visible, although you will not be able to delete any files in the actual Saved Games folder.
This issue will not occur unless the game is installed in a privileged area (e.g. C:\Windows or C:\Program Files), although this is the default. Also, this won't happen if the User Account Control (UAC) is turned off.
