How to improve astra j reverse lighting?

You are a human. You do not have a tapetum lucidum, so in complete darkness you basically cannot see. I'm not sure how you can argue otherwise to be honest.

Indeed, along with the fact that your eyes will have been accustomed to the light from your instruments and headlights, meaning you'll see even less in darkness.

Check the circuit terminals (i.e on the bulb holder) for corrosion, the condition of the reflector and the transparency of the bulb + lens cover.

If you have access to a voltmeter then check the voltage at the bulb holder, it should be within 0.5v of the reading across the battery terminals and ideally <0.3v. The same goes with the earth wire terminal checked against battery positive (compared to battery voltage).

A loss of a volt or two makes a huge difference to bulb brightness.

When you are outside anywhere in this world, it will never be so dark, that you can not see around you.....

How many place in this world have you been then, ever actually been outside the reach of light pollution on a night without moonlight? I can assure you there are plenty of places where you can't see a damn thing. You sound like an idiot going on like that.

I just swapped my car in for an Astra J. I needed a diesel to save money on fuel (do almost 100 miles a day).

My previous car had 2 reverse lights and was never a problem but this Astra is atrocious when it comes to reverse lighting. I leave for work at 5:30am and there is no street lighting. Lots of my neighbours have cats which are often out all night. I have resorted to slowly reversing and just relying on the parking sensors to let me know if there is anything behind me. There should be a law forcing the motor industry to use 2 reverse lights. IMO it's very dangerous.

If you really need to see, use your brake lights? FML, how has this thread lasted this long? :p:D

Not sure if you can do it with Vauxhalls, but I have just coded my High level Brake light (Golf Mk7 GTI) to come on with the reversing lights. Makes a difference and no need to dab the brakes.

In countries where no rear fog light is required, they'd have two reversing lights instead.

I have quite dark rear window tints but 2x reversing lights which aren't great for visibility; if/when I need to see behind, i tend to put the rear fogs on temporarily and dab the brakes.

Obviously the lights are red but at least it illuminates the area in a similar way.
