How to indicate on mini-roundabout (T junction style)?

1. When going from position 1 straight you indicate "left".
2. When going from position 2 straight you indicate "right".
3. When going from position 3 left or right you indicate accordingly.

It's a mini roundabout so you don't indicate when exiting the roundabout as there isn't any time for this, so you indicate only once. On big roundabouts you going straight you would only indicate when leaving the roundabout, just past the last exit on your left.

I am confused when it comes to indicating in example 1 and 2 when going straight.

Lol!

To answer the question, I thinly its fine to indicate, common sense would dictate your not going to drive off the road, and so people will know where you are going.

It's better than not indicating, as with a mini round about its hard to predict where an oncoming vehicles going to turn, as the road is usually fairly narrow.

position 2 i wouldn't indicate until i'd passed where point 3 is, as indicating right could give the impression your going back the way you've just come, and someone at 3 might think they have time to nip left.

Would entirely depend on the road but in general:
1. I'd indicate left if I felt it would help other road users.
2. I wouldn't indicate 99% of the time and if I did it would never be right since to me that would mean I'm going all the way round back on myself.

But again, it all depends on the size of the openings and how busy the side road is.

To help others if going from 1 to 2 I'd indicate left (2 to 1, right) on approach to the roundabout, if there weren't many cars I wouldn't bother. I don't think it's a fail if you don't do it on a test but there is no harm in indicating as this definitely won't fail you.

What you have written sounds perfectly fine to me, I do indicate in mini roundabouts when there are other drivers about.

This is what I would do if I was on a driving lesson/test:
1 going straight on, indicate left.
2 going straight on, indicate left immediately after passing the left turn towards 3

For 1 I would indicate left. For 2 I would not indicate at all to avoid confusion. For 3 I would indicate once towards my intended direction. If I was in 3 and turning back on myself, I would indicate right, wait until the person coming from 1 had stopped (and ofc nothing coming from 2), swing widely and very slowly manoeuvre myself around, so the person at 1 does not move.

When I was learning to drive my instructor told me not to indicate when going straight on (unless on a larger roundabout, where you indicate on the exit) because it can confused other drivers, making them think that you're either going back on yourself or pulling over to the left. I was also told not to indicate on the exit of a mini roundabout.
In this example I wouldn't indicate at all when going straight on, it's not necessary.

I wouldn't indicate going straight on at 1 or 2.

This ^

These small T junction roundabouts are quite annoying as those on the 'main' part of the road (i.e. going from 1 to 2 on the diagram) never ease off when approaching, which is quite dangerous for those wanting to pull out from 3.

In this example I wouldn't indicate at all when going straight on, it's not necessary.
If you are approaching from the opposite direction and you may have to give way, having that driver indicate that they aren't going to be turning right in front of you allows you to not slow to a virtual stop and smooths traffic flow.

This.

I'm a fairly new driver and was taught the same thing.

I also pass 3 or 4 mini roundabouts on my commute to work that are EXACTLY the same as the above drawn example and no one seems to indicate when going straight from 1 or 2.

As others have said if someone indicated right from 2 I would brake assuming they are going all the way back on themselves.
