Please can some one advise me on what to do.

Current rig: i7 920, Gigabyte UD7, 6 Gb OCZ ram,XFX Black edition 850 PSU,windows 7 ultimate 64bit,2tb HDs 1 x ATI 5970 with 2.8 catylst drivers.

What I need to do is add a 2nd 5970, but I have not got a clue on where to start, and I cant see anything on google.

I have a spare PCI E x16 slot.

Shall I uninstall the current drivers? Shall I just instal plug and go ?

Last week I added a 5870 and there were some drivers issues, so I completely re-installed my operating system, from vista to a new windows 7 ultimate 64bit.
So i want this to go as smoothly as possible.

Has anyone ecountered a problem by adding a 2nd 5970 or 5870 as they use the same drivers.

It would be great if someone could advise me on wgat to do step by step?

I just want a stable rig with 5970 crossfire.

thank you people:)

Am unsure if you have a 5970 or 5870 already from your post.

If you have a 5870, put it in the lower of the 2 slots you plan to use. If you have a 5970, leave it where it is and just add the new one to the mix.

So;

uninstall ati drivers

power off

add new card

connect cfx bridge

connect power

connect screen(s)

power on

install ati drivers

turn on crossfire in drivers

play games

Just as easy as Lazy Boy has stated. Don't want to confuse you or anything but to stop problems if they do arise, after you have uninstalled the drivers, use driver cleaner to completely eradicate remnants of your previous drivers before installing the new ones.

I take it you mean 10.8 drivers?

When I was running a 5870 XFire setup, if I powered down and removed the XFire bridge and restarted, CCC automatically detected the new hardware configuration and visa versa.

:)

power off, slot card in, put crossfire bridge on, power on, make sure crossfire is enabled in CCC, play games
no need to uninstall drivers

The PSU is a single rail so it should be fine. True those 5890 do draw some mean power, but there is only one HDD and I am guessing moderate overclocking going on.

BUT if hectic overclocking of the CPU and both the cards is going to happen then yeah a bigger PSU might just be the answer.
