Hi Guys

i have brought a BeQuiet Pure Power L7 530W Power Supply however ive never installed one before.

I have two 320 gb hard drives
1 CD/DVD-RW drive
Q660 2.40 Ghz
2GB RAM
1 Coolermaster fan prebuilt
Sapphire HD 5850 1024GB
PT890-8237A motherboard

What will i do with the cables+ is this a good method, taking the PSU out but not taking the cables out then mounting the new PSU then replacing each cable one by one??

if somebody could give me a quick rundown on how to to do it properly it would be much appreciated

the connectors will only fit in there correct slots so dont force any

rip the old one out then install the new one

try to be clean with the cable management

shoot us a pic of inside you case

Cables out of sockets first. Then PSU out of case. Then new PSU into case. Then connect the cables. Make notes on a bit of paper about what needs connecting up to the PSU as you take out the old connectors, it'll be obvious which connectors go where when you're putting things back together, just use a bit of common sense! They're all designed to look different and shaped to prevent them being put in the wrong place. The hardest bit of installing a new power supply is making the cables look tidy after it's all connected. :p

Basically remove the old cables then the psu, install new PSU and then install all the cables, these are keyed to only to fit in a certain way.

Don't forget the 4 or 8 pin for cpu power and if your gpu has to lots of connectors install both.

PCI-E are 6 + 2 and not get confused with cpu power 8 pin.

Do i need to connect any of the PSU cables to the graphics card (Sapphire HD 5850)

If you just shove everything in and leave it untidy then as said, probably half an hour to an hour. If you think it through and route your cables neatly add another 30-60 minutes on there. But it makes the case look better, makes it easier to make any modifications in the future, and improves airflow, so it's always a good idea to make busy with the cable ties.

You will need to install both, the extra 2 pins hang to one side.

You can see the extra 2 pins sticking up above the water pipe on the top card.

oh ok

So there are two 8 PIN cables

take the two pins off both 8 pin cables making them both two 6 pin cables and then put them both into the 5850, correct?

Perhaps I didn't explain it clearly.

Connect two 6 pin connectors to the graphics card.

Just leave the extra 2 pins on the connectors disconnected.

They shouldn't need "ripping off". They should detach quite easily like this:

I found it was actually harder to get the cables to stay on!
