Hi,
New to this , so please can some one help. Have just fitted a Maxtor hard drive as a slave drive to my computer for extra storage. Installation went easy and well, but when I start computer in to windows XP the drive is not showing up as a drive letter in "My Computer" but is is showing up in device manager. What have I to do to get to formatt and use it etc. It came as OEM so no info.
Many thanks for any help...
Regards

It's far easier to use the built in tools in Windows for partitioning and formatting rather than going and downloading extra software. Just go into Disk Management by right clicking on My Computer and picking Manage, then select Disk Management from the left hand side of the new window. The Disk Management applet will open in the right hand pane.

It'll ask to write a signature to the new disk, say yes to that. Once that's done you'll see the new drive as a bar of unallocated space below your exisiting C: drive, right click in the unallocated bit and select New Partition. When the dialogue pops up make sure it's set to NTFS and Quick Format is checked then click OK. The format should only take a few seconds and then you're done. You might want to swap the drive letter of the new disk and the DVD drive but that's personal preference - right click on the DVD and select Change Drive Letter and take it from there.
