A friend of mine has inherited a family members mac - a a1174.

It is his understanding that his uncle for some reason totally removed OSX and put windows 7 on it..

He's now struggling to revert back to OSX.

He has snow leopard on dvd but doesnt know how to go about installing it, apparently booting from the dvd ends up with an error message?

Am i missing something?

Thanks

I see, All i know at the moment is that he got it off a family member who had put windows 7 on it for whatever reason. I think the OSX was corrupted somehow.

ill ask him to boot holding alt, what she he be expecting to happen?

And if the OSX is just corrupt how can he fix, both with, or if he doesnt have, without the same OSX disc

thanks in advance

If it's a retail disc and not one from another mac it'll be fine.

Put the OS X disc in, and hold C on boot.

These.

Once Snow Lep has started up you'll need to re-partition the disk using Disk Utility (from the menu bar at the top). Then install Snow Lep. It'll need at a minimum 1GB of RAM, which wasn't standard on the original Intel iMac.
