Hi all, once made one of these, but I cannot remember how! I have only ever had the meal once and fancy having a go at making a quick one.... The ingrediants I have are:

Tinned Tomatoes
Fresh Tomatoes
Fresh Onions
Cheese
Fresh Minced Beef

I have other things, not things like garlic etc however, What could I do with the above for a tasy and quick version of spaghetti bolognese:)? Thanks!

Fry onions, garlic and mushrooms.

Add beef and a beef stock cube and liberal amounts of worcester sauce.

Add tinned tomatoes, oregano, Italian seasoning and a couple of bay leaves.

Quick and easy.

Edit: Forgot pepper!!! Lots of that.

Well once you get some spaghetti and maybe some mixed herbs / random other veg you'll be set.

Chop all the veg and cook on the hob with the mince with a little salt and mixed herbs for seasoning, cooked the spagehtti, put it all on plate and grate cheese on the top :) Can't really go wrong tbh.

To make it:

Sweat the onions (about 1 min away from the end is where you add the garlic). Take off heat
Brown the mince, add to the onions, add tomatoes. Put on a low/ medium heat for 20 minutes.

You can add in:

Chili. Oregano and a bay leaf. Some people like marmite/worces..... sauce. I don't like to use any stock.

[edit] Don't forget to season.

[second edit] Once the beef is removed from the pan deglaze it with some red wine, these little bits have lots of flavour, as does the wine.

So is garlic - keep the mushrooms - forget the cheese. Chicken stock and "Fresh Minced Beef"?

For next time ;)
Is wine good to add? As I dont actualy drink.... But if it was worthwhile I dont mind it in food (Mmmm Sherry Trifle!)

Also, is olive oil a must? The only oil I actualy have atm is Sunflower Oil, I dont normaly experiment with food so im a bit of a nub! (But I can bake great!)

How much garlic should I add? Never used garlic in things before and dont want to overpower the meal (Also how do I prepare it)

How long should I cook the mince meat for (Its fresh stuff) before I put it in? I was told I need to boil it first but I dont know..... I do like it quite well done

The wine get's reduced, meaning the alcohol is effectively evaporated.

Garlic - I use one big clove when i'm making for four. To prepare - chop of the ends, turn the knife on it's side and crush the clove. Remove the skin and chop finely.

I will be making it for 1, however if it is alright to reheat in the oven the next day?

I have enough for 2..... Looks like I need head back to the shop and get some Wine, garlic, mushrooms and mixed herbs (Dryed herbs ok? As I could not see any fresh in Morrisons)

What would a good, but not to expensive red wine be to get? Noting that apart from this it wont be drank.... Unless I give it away (Sad to say I have never tried red wine, only white and white I do not like)

Will be fine to reheat the sauce (don't add it to the pasta though!). Reheat on the hob.

Dried herbs are fine, I use them a lot of the time (cumin, oregano, chili, coriander).

Not sure on the wine front, whenever I get wines I always ask the guy behind the counter at Oddbins.

I do it the cheap and lazy way.

Brown a bit of minced beef, throw in some pasta sauce and let simmer for a bit. Then throw in some pre-fried mushrooms or onions or whatever and done.

Maybe I should try it the proper way and see how much better it tastes :D

Bucketloads of garlic
Buckets of tinned tomatoes
Half a cow of minced beef
Salt and pepper

Job done

(I guess it's down to personal preference ;) )

Even if it doesn't taste quite as good, which is unlikely, there's a sense of achievement :)
