How to make curves with an image editing software?

I'm currently using Fireworks and having trouble making images that have curves, like this one (dark blue one):

How do you make curves like this?

Is there a tool called the 'pen tool'? not a brush but a vector producing tool, this is the equivalent in photoshop where you select points and draw a vectorised image. :)

My suggestion too. Flash has it, so fireworks should. :p

On a side note, the pen tool is the devil's creation, whatever I try to do with it it doesn't want to work how I want. :/
 
Yeah, I'd love to be able to use it properly, but whatever I try and draw with it looks nothing like how I pictured it in my mind.
 
The Adobe Illustrator toolset is far better than the pen tool in Photoshop for creating curves etc. But then it probably should be, considering creating vectors is its job. :)

Its tricky at first just takes some practice.

There's a Pixel Perfect episode on it too, but I didn't seem to master it after that, however, this video seems most helpful as it told me why I couldn't go more than 90 degrees. Muchas gracias.
