I've just installed a Crucial M4 256GB SSD and did a fresh format.

I've only bothered to install the graphics driver as Windows 8 seems to have found everything else.

What application can I use to make sure my SSD is running at the rated speed?

Cheers

download atto benchmark

be sure to install the ssd on the first intel sata3 speed port

Thanks for this, not to sure how to use Atto though however here is a screenshot of CrystalDisk.

I think it's in a Sata3 port although I'm using a rather old sata cable, not sure if it matters? Transfer mode says SATA/600 is this correct?

yh that's right, sata cables wont matter

atto is easy just run as it is,dont alter anything,read/write should show the specs of the drive

How do you set it up to run though? Put total length on 256MB and let it run all the way through? Does it take long?

Cheers

yeah,it shows the read/write figures for each amount of data

272mb write and 525mb read

it would show higher writes if you flashed the ssd to later firmware, think they upped it to around 300/400mb

I did flash the SSD before I ran that benchmark. Hmm

Is RST rapid storage or rapid start?

Cheers

EDIT - Just installed the rapid storage drivers and it's benched pretty much the same as before do not much difference really.
