How to make the computer use an earth net cable instead of a wireless dongle

My friend is unable to use the Internet I the computer because it is going do slowly when it uses the dongle, I don't know why it goes so much slower than usual when he is only 6 foot away from his modem but it goes so slow he can barely load YouTube videos.
I have tried disabling the dongle and even restoring windows back to when it worked but it doesn't seem to help at all, it just constantly asks for the code to the network, and when I put it in it says mismatch, it's starting to get quite silly.

Any feedback and advice will be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Earth net?

Do you mean Ethernet?

I find that if there are two network connections in use it'll always favour one over the other, so, I will disable the wireless network connection in the Network and Sharing Centre>Change Adapter settings while I use the hard wire to the router. I'm unsure how one would assign a priority to one connection over another as this sort of thing isn't usually an issue for me.

If the wireless dongle is not working and ethernet cable is an option then just unplug it or disable.

If the wireless used to work it could be a sign his router is on the way out but it could just be interference. You could try changing the wireless channel on the router.

there is another computer in the same room which is connected through an ethernet and the internet on that is fine, and i have tried disabling the dongle and it just does not connect, in the network and sharing centre thing it does display the modem with the dongle in use, but with the dongle disabled it does not use any local area connections or anything and just cant find it

You can try hitting the alt key when viewing network connections. That should bring up the classic menus. From there go into advanced settings and move the required adapter to the top of the connections list. Should do the trick

When you plug a cable in the PC and connect it to the router, does it light up on the router? Might have accidentally disabled the Ethernet port on the PC, so check this too in network connections. Could try the cable from the working PC too, to rule out a bad cable.

I have already tried the cable and it works, and and yeah it shows up in the device manager, and I have tried disabling it to use the cable and then downloading drivers manually and it doesn't work still

I'm not asking if the wireless dongle shows up in device manager, I'm asking what network adapters in total show up.

Ra link rt61 turbo wireless LAN card #2
Real tek pcie gee family controller
Himachi (which is a thing used so you don't have to port forward)
Those are the things in the network adaptors list, and also he is using windows 7 64 bit

You "should" be able to use the Realtek PCIE card provided the drivers are installed but I'm surprised there's no mention of an onboard NIC.

Have a look on the back of the PC and see how many ethernet ports there are. There's normally one (or two) on the motherboard IO shield but according to your device manager it's not showing.

The 'Real tek pcie gee family controller' is the onboard NIC (I have the same one). When you plug the cable in to it, do the lights come on, on it? (Should see them flashing from the back). Also go in to Sharing Center and on the left, click 'Change Adapter settings'. Is the icon for the Real tek pcie gee family controller greyed out?

Sounds like he doesn't have the drivers for the Onboard NIC (Realtek PCI-E Gigabit Controller) installed..

Get on the motherboard manufacturer's website or if it is a pre-built PC (Dell, Acer, etc) go on there website, put in the model no. and get the ethernet drivers for it.
