How to make Windows 7 ask for driver location when connecting a new device

Hi all, does anyone know how to get Windows 7 Home Premium to ask me the location to search for drivers when a new device is connected to my system? in Windows Vista/XP we had the option to search/locate drivers manualy or search windows update when a new device was connected, i know i can do this from device manager but i would like to use the "found new hardware wizard" but this option seems to be missing from Windows 7.

Basically you need to open the Devices and Printers applet then right-click on one of the devices there. Select Device Installation Settings then choose the "No, let me choose what to do" option. You're then given a choice of how you want Windows 7 to act when it finds new drivers. I believe this setting applies to all devices not just the one you clicked on.
 
Thanks for the reply, but, the options that you get are the same as the options in advanced sytem settings, and there is no option to make Windows ask me for driver location.
 
I had the same problem , the bugger just auto installs without asking ( win7 what a git)

Only way I could stop it from auto doing this was to disable auto device installation
So if I wanted to update a driver I would remove driver BEFORE reboot go to
gpedit.msc and disable it there ( think its comp config -> admin templates ->driver something - cant rem correct path right now, got it in house)
Then reboot after login go back and set auto install to ok)
then install your new driver (if u dont reset it back you cant install any drivers)

Computer config -> Admin templates -> System -> Device installation -> Device installation restrictions -> Prevent installation of devices not described by other policy

I think thats the one to config , will check later on when home.

Thanks for this, the problem is, Windows 7 Home Premium doesn't contain gpedit.msc, i think but i'm not shure that gpedit.msc is only available with enterprise, professional and ultimate versions of Windows 7, stupid microsoft.
