Basically, I have two essays in for Monday. One is a creative/critical piece so I can run that off rather quickly, the second is a proper essay, which I've sorted out the references and the content for - I just can't bring myself to write the thing.
How do I motivate myself? I suppose it doesn't help that I'm coming down with a cold...
...and my usual method of cola and more cola isn't helping :(

Get a kebab or something

Also, i cant motivate myself to do some work as i see it as pointless

If it isn't going to help me in further life then

do the work tomorrow morning

set three (or as many as you have) alarm clocks (or a phone which has multiple alarms at once) all 4 mins apart, all set out of reach of your bed.

set the alarms for half 7

when they go off you'll have no choice but to get up.

once you're up, it's half 7 so there's nothing better to do.

voila, motivation.

or, if you live with your parents, tell them that you have work to do, and they'll keep nagging you.

Sometimes it helps if you set yourself imaginary deadlines about when you have to get a piece of work done by. I'm not the best person to talk about this because I usually leave it until I begin to feel the time pressure but you've got to stop finding excuses not to do the work and just get on with it.

Ask a friend to get a rocket and shove it where the monkeys shove there nut then ask them to light it

am sure it will get you to get a move on lol

other wise if you dont like the first one Just kinda chill and get your head togther

The only way I could bring myself to write an essay at uni was to go to the library and get it done. I usually hired a private study room with a computer, and found getting the job done was much, much easier.

I can't work at all at home, I associate it with entertainment, so getting anything done is a dead loss. Remember when writing the essays, it's much better to get something written that is sub-par, than writing nothing at all. You can always go back and improve on it, and it doesn't impede any writing 'flow' that you may have .

It doesn't help that I feel myself getting iller by the minute :(
All my housemates are out tonight luckily, so I'll have a lot of quiet time :) hopefully get one done tonight with help of cola, so the optimism is there!

As previously mentioned, go to a library or somewhere other than home to work. It forces you away from distractions such as posting on OcUK.

do you have another half?, if so give them your credit/debit card with the pin, and let them loose. the lack of money should motivate you to work harder so you dont suffer from that problem in the future (hopefully).

or put a knife to your adsl/cable line, it should remove a lot of the distractions.

Pesronally I try to set myself goals. Getting a bit done at a time means I don't end up sitting there for aaaaaaages trying to do it. A few hours at a time usually works a treat.

same

my assignment had to be in today

started at 1am lastnight... I really cant help it

New years resolution... 30 mins of work a night outside of college

I'm trying to get out of this habit! Always end up wishing i'd started earlier and knowing it would have been a lot less stressfull.... am getting there slowly!

I had the same problem when i first started uni, I found it difficult to motivate myself to get study done. But what motivated me was that i wanted a good job with good job prospects, something you just don't get if you don't put effort in. Sure its difficult and and dull to work hard all the time, but its all worth it in the end.

As my dad said to me: "You don't get nothing out of life for free" and my tutor: "You get what you deserve" <--as in the amount of work you put in will determine your rewards.

Turned out I had an allergic reaction :/ went to a&e and was given some antihistamines (sp?) with my symptoms, feel a bit better today but still awful. Got one halfway done at least.
