How to open Asset files from computer games?

Hey guys, i'm playing a computer game and i'd like to access the music so i can listen to it outside of the game.

Now the bulk of the game is within a folder called "Assets" and every file in there has a custom file extension i.e. .xyz .

I've tried opening it with Assimpview, but that doesn't seem to work.

Anyone have any ideas of how i may do this?

Depends on the game (or engine), most have their own custom file formats.

I know the name of the engine.

So because they have custom file formats, it means i wont be able to open it?
