How to overclock a 7850 past 1050MHz?

Set the power target slider to +20 before you start tinkering with the voltage, it should help. If not, then your card is not stable at 1050 mhz and you will have to run some more volts through it. I would opt for a very small bump, it certainly won't need much juice to get stable at this freq. You can push the memory if you want but the performance gain will be nowhere near the one you'd get from oc'ing the core.

So i bump the power by 20% and then the core to 1050 and see what it does?

If it dont crash all is good?

Whats a safe voltage to reach 1050 i dont really wanna kill the card just a small OC its already at 975 by default so.

There's a power target slider in AB which is at 0 by defaut, just set it to +20 and you're good to go. This doesn't alter the voltage, it just regulates the maximum power draw limit of your card. Since you're overclocking, you'd want that slider maxed. With power target at +20 you can test your OC. If it crashes you'll have to up the volts.

I don't know, it depends how lucky you were in the silicon lottery:P For 1050, I doubt it'll be something major. What's your stock voltage? Add +2mV to that, it won't even increase the card's temps. As for 1100, you have to try for yourself. Mine takes a monstruous 1,180V to hit it. Anything under 1,2V should be safe for 24/7 as long as the temps are within reasonable limits.

hmm, sorry for nub question, im running the HIS 7850 card and already downloaded ASUS tweak.

how do you know how much voltage to put through the card?. if i put too much through surely it cant be good and if the voltage isnt high enough it should just crash instantly?.

It tends to crash when the gpu is under load. Most people are adjusting the 3d clocks and voltages so the general desktop stuff is not effected.

Done the bench on 1050mhz-1450 mhz +20%
Its not a bad score? or do you think i should try Oc even more.

mine runs at perm 1200/1450 and no problems. Starts crashing on heaven at 1225/1450 though. But yes, 90% of 7850's have no problems going above 1050 on the core.

I tried NFS Most wanted 2012 yesterday and it was literally the first game that bsod'ed on me with my current specs... I really hope that it was either the 12.11 beta or the game itself. It's rather poorly optimised. One moment everything's silky smooth, the next the framerate gets cut in half and stays there no matter what I do. The game was running fine (except the choppy framerate) for about 20 minutes, then I minimised it for a while. When I went back, it ran for 5 minutes or so. Then the sound started stuttering and I got a BSOD. I should've checked the error code;/ I'll try it today and see if it happens again.

Drivers have really helped out with this card. 1100/5000mhz OC. With older drivers the same setting would get a ~1400 score with ~56fps average
Previously people needed to up it up well beyond 1200core to get 60fps avg. Currently running 12.11 driver

In line with your previous scores, I'm getting 56.2fps at 1150/5800 running the 12.10 drivers.

12.11 seems to provide a massive increase. Do you have 4*AA switched on as well when getting 67fps?

you missed off 4x aa

Hello.

I have a Gigabyte 7850 Windforce OC which runs at 975mhz core. Cant remember the mem clock. But if I want to go up to 1050mhz and whatever the higher mem clock is, can I just use AMD Overdrive or should I use different software?

Should I use a different piece of software anyway? Is it just generally better to use seperate software?? Sorry if this doesnt make much sense, i did rwwrite it 3 times :p

Cam.

Edit: Also, will temps rise up a lot?

temps will rise, idk how much though, you can OC to 1050 core if you're lucky and you don't need more voltage for it, since amd overdrive doesn't let you change voltage. I recommend you try Sapphire Ttrixx or Asus GPU tweak so you can get custom fan profiles as well and change voltage.

Thanks mate,

I'll get Asus GPU Tweak and see what I can do :) If I OC further, will I have to a special run like you do when you OC CPU's to make sure it's stable? What software do I use to do this?

Well you can use anything, either heaven 3.0 (used in those benchmarks above) or games you usually play. If it crashes either raise voltage (since crashes are usually due to low voltage, too high voltage and you get too much heat, an OCing tool will tell you your temps as well) or lower your OC my 25mhz or something.

Here's my 7870 overclocked to 1340/1500. Also placed within the Heaven thread.

nice, what's your score at 1200mhz/1375mhz btw (core/memory)?
