How to play MKV files?

Any ideas why this will not work...

Vista 32 and the following installed..

CoreAVC 1.85
ac3filter 1.51a

When trying to play a mkv file and using WMP I get the sound perfectly but no picture even though I get the Haali Media Splitter icon within the system tray, I am assuming showing that the CoreAVC is installed correctly. Everything is ticked under the config of CoreAVC and I have re-registerd the codec with no success.

I know by installing, for example, Vista Codec Pack, it will work. Or I could use another media player but I did want to try and get the mkv file to play with WMP and using CoreAVC. Is this possible..?

Combined community codec codec pack? :D

In my experience, CCCP is the best pack out there, very small, no bloat and will play almost everything.

Though I've not been able to get blu-rays to play via Media Player Classic, or M2TS files.

I do get a message warning me that some of the streams in this movie are of an unsupported format

I understand I could use KM player, or Zoom player, VLC etc etc etc but I just wanted it to work via WMP, if possible. :)
