While enjoying a ham and mustard sandwich, at the PC watching YouTube in the comfort of my own home the topping fell off and landed on my keyboard.

Wiped up the mustard off the space bar and the area around it but some of it got down the sides of the keys. I'm using a Microsoft Comfort Curve keyboard, the keys have basically no gap in between them.

It's really bugging me as I can't properly clean it, so I want to know what my options are. Want to do a really thorough clean as all I did before was just vacuum it.

Ta.

I pulled all the keys off my keyboard and took all the electricals out and put the lot in the dishwasher, came up like new :) It's time consuming but it's very thorough :)

you can use a blunt knife to pop them up, but becareful on the longer keys, as they have a frame underneath

I'm sure custompc did an article on this. If i renember correctly then put a complete keyboard in a dishwasher, let it dry and it was fine.
There are some products out there to do it. ut was said there a waste of money. I use a dry cloth with abit of barry scotts fav... cillit bang!!!

Nothing quite beats the satisfaction of removing all the keys, cleaning each one individually with soapy hot water, opening the case and cleaning that thoroughly, wipe the membranes, allow all to dry, and reassemble. Mmmm

If the keyboards still under warranty, then follow these steps:

Step A:

Break keyboard in any manner which you find intrinsically satisfying

Step B:

Contact company regarding said damaged keyboard, making sure to state how upset you are by the fact that said keyboard has let you down JUST when you need it 'most'!
Make sure to hint that you expect postage to be paid by the aforementioned company

Step C:

Take receipt of shiny new keyboard within a couple of weeks!

;)

Step D:

Some time in the future, lament the price of goods and services, and the scarcity of resources thanks to dishonest lazy gits who can't even be arsed to clean a keyboard :p :)

Get a screwdriver. Take it to bits. Clean. Re-assemble.

If you've a bad memory take a picture first. You'll then know where all the keys are supposed to go back.
QWERTY not BDRKNA. ;)

Remove all the keys and clean them with baby or kitchen wipes, clean as much of the part under the keys using wipes then use a flat head screw driver to get the wipes in to the corners and small spaces.

Or if someone else occasionally uses the keyboard who doesn't touch type he can swap a few around. ;)

I just poped the keys out of my locosta which was very easy then cleaned everything with a duster and some polish.

I usually just use a dust spray to get most of the dust out and just go over it with some polish to clean the top of it.

I spilled some Tea on mine about a year back, dried it off OK but it felt sticky so I placed the whole keyboard in a bowl of warm soapy water and gave a good scrub. I was amazed at the amount of crud that came off the board.

Shook excess water off and used Air drier to blow remainder off, placed in airing cupboard for two days upside down to dry off completely using cheap keyboard meantime. Plugged in and worked perfect. I now wipe over every other day with a soft cloth slightly damp from any decent anti-biotic cleaner, keeps it spotless and germ free. :)

Take it to your local launderette where they have a dry cleaning machine, give it a cycle in there and it comes up a treat.

How does it manage to work even after you've put it under water? Scared it'll break as this is a M$ keyboard and i'm skint atm if I need to buy a new one.
