A friend of mine has purchased an iPod from the EU and when plugged in to headphones it's quieter than UK models because of some EU directive on ear bleeding. :p

Any ideas how this cap can be removed?

This may or may not be helpful but...

Someone over on XDA Developers managed to create an app for the Samsung Galaxy S that boosts the overall output gain for the phone for music. I think it works on all android devices. Perhaps have a look over there to see if anything has done anything similar for the iPod?

It cant be removed but you can get portable amps like the fiio e5 that boost the volume of whatever is connected to it

One example on Android is Louder Volume Hack. Someone also created a DSP tool that was incorporated into Froydvillain. Volume hacks might be possible on a jailbroken ipod.

Is flashing it to a US firmware a possibility? thats what i did with my dads zen vision mp3 player, worked like a charm.

On my Sansa Clip + I only had to set the regions as USA on startup. The whole thing is an absolute joke. It sounded terrible before I removed the volume restriction, blummin EU cronies.

It's there to save other people having to listen to **** that other annoying people play too load, so leave it alone :p

Even though I know you were semi-joking, I'll say it anyway...I'd challenge anyone to hear my music through my IEMs unless they were far closer than they should be :D. Volume restrictions are

GAY

god my legand sounds loud enough...i would imagine you would have to jail break the iphone/pod first through?
