To cut a long story short, i cant find the locking wheel nut key so if i get a puncture i cant take the wheel off!

The car is a 2002 Toyota Celica. I've been to my local dealer and they say they would have to drill the old bolts out and replace with new ones at a cost of £88 labor plus the cost for replacement bolts.

Is there a way i can get these off without Mr Toyota claiming some of my money?

I've already checked to see if i can just order a replacement key, but they dont have the serial number on file

had some stuck on the back of my mondeo, when i had sisks done they welded a nut on the back. charged em a tenner for two

Purchase a new set of locking wheel nuts, go to a local tyre place, and they will charge about £10 to remove the old ones off.

Depending on the type of Locking Nut it is... What I've seen in the past is...

You can hammer on a slightly smaller sized socket... So it sticks onto the lock nut etc.. and then just stick a Big Rachet on it and undo...

Thats the usual method, make sure you get an impact socket though.

Its the standard Toyota ones, 3 prongs type.

Looks like the best thing is to buy new ones and get a tyre place to whip the old ones off.

Thanks guys

In order of ease:

Pay to have it done

Go to a dealership and get the key (audi just gave us one FOC when we asked)

Heat up and hammer on a socket that otherwise wouldnt fit over the nut

Weld on a nut and remove as you would any other nut.

What is that, a cutting torch?

I hammered on a socket for this problem. Shouldnt have worked and shards of metal were flying off the nuts and the socket wasnt pretty either but it did work. You can also get reverse threaded removal sockets on ebay for this problem, just make sure you get the right size one for the job

You can buy special sockets that have an internal cutting thread that are designed to remove seized/rounded nuts and bolts that work well on wheel nuts/bolts IF there is enough room for the socket to fit. Alloys that have a deep recess that's a snug fit for the bolt head/nut are a bit of a nightmare.

Something like this? http://www.toolsinstock.com/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=13286

LOL @ toyota. Please dont pay them £88. do it yourself.

i did exactly this

lost my locking wheelnet key

buy cheap and soft wheel brace

proceed to bash said wheelbrace onto the nuts and remove. Obviously not the way to do it if your after nicking them, but from the comfort of your own drive not a problem.

Toyota Dealer, should be a work of moments and I would be suprised if they charged you.

he;s already quoted they want £88 labour charge for it.

which is absolutely scandalous.

considering as posted above, a smaller socket or cheap wheelbrace will do the job nicely. Plus, if you do use a wheelbrace, you can choose one of the fitments thats too small for your nuts, that you wouldnt have used anyway, and knacker that, but keep the one that does fit !
