How to remove red warning from "full" drive

Apparantly the main article doesn't work for Windows 7! Read the comments further down. But that doesn't change the icon in Computer - at least I don't think it does.

Guys is it really wise to buy a new hard drive or constantly move data around just so that i don't have to have a red icon on my hard drive? Don't you think it is a bit much? Don't you think they should have an option to disable it or increase it; this is 2010 after all

DogsBody thank you very much for the link, unfortunately though this only works for removing the "you are running out of space" notification when really low on space. Anybody else got ideas about removing the red? Thanks for the help

You could just.. leave it red and forget about it?

In other news, right click, view, details. Now you won't have the bars at all.

Oh yes it is 2010! We have the technology ...... to pointlessly change the colour of icons! :D

You think it is any more pointless than all these pointless comments some people are making?

You think it is any more pointless than have the red warning when i have "just" 50GB+ left, because that is such a dangerously small amount isn't it?

Its 2010 so we should have the option to tweak our user interface; no more comments about how nit-picky I'm being please! Just comment if you have a solution thanks

I have had a look around and cannot find anything even mentioning changing the colour of the drive icons when they are below the threshold. Almost every reference to low disk space leads back to disabling the notifications.

So you have 4 options:

1: Gord's suggestion - turn off the bars.
2: Remove some crap.
3: Get a bigger HDD.
4: Suck it up.

I stick a piece of paper on the screen to cover the red bar. Helps ease my mind. And hides some of the facts from me.

It's red for a reason.. Pagefile-Tempfiles-Restores all take up some of that 50gb. So delete some stuff, back some stuff up, get a new £30 500gig HDD.

If you supply me with a good reason as to why you'd like to remove the conditional formatting I'll offer advice :)

I've had a look around as well, and it does seem as though it's hard-coded into the OS, with no option to change it (at least for now).

I can see why you'd want it on an OS volume, or one that's constantly seeing lots of writing/deleting activity, as a very low amount of free space could result in runaway fragmentation and consequently a performance hit. It seems a bit unnecessary though if you have, say, a 2TB drive filled with static media files, and it starts flashing RED FOR DANGER at you when you still have 200GB of free space.

It doesn't flash.. it's just red.. It doesn't pop up.. it doesn't animate.. it doesn't affect performance in ANY way. Cosmetic reasons?

It's just red to tell you it has less than 10% free capacity. Why it bothers him so much I have no idea. It's not like you sit and look at the Computer window all day is it.

Exactly. Couple of possible explanations..

1. Your boss (who's computer illiterate) wouldn't like to see red text and would assume a problem. To which you should explain "it's warning 10% left of HDD space. But it's plenty"

2. You have an OCD.

I already posted a solution...
