a broken screw!

It's driving me mad! basically the screw has kinda gonna crap and the the screwdriver no longer grips it if you know what i mean and i cannot unscrew it anymore :(

any ideas?

*never buy cheap screwdrivers* ;)

you rounded the head of.

Is it a raised head? if so use a hack saw and saw a new grove in the top.

What's it in, got a pic?

It's a T8 Torx screw ;), and ill consider some of these options! cheers. :)

Oh, and the screw is still right in there, isn't raised one bit so plyer are out of the question :(

If it's a tightly fastened screw cutting a slot head won't work, it'll just fall apart as you apply torque. If it's a torx, it will likely be very tightly done up :(

I had to drill out a dodgy screw on a few occasions, but I knew i'd be tapping a new thread in there anyhow. If you can't do then it's risky.

Superglue definately won't hold anything onto it with enough strength, epoxy metal bond will have a better chance but i'd say very unlikely, torsion is a big killer for most bonding agents (as opposed to sheer forces).

When that happens I usually get a small drill and drill down the center of the screw a couple of mm and then get a screw driver bit from an eleccy screw driver and put it on the screw head and smack it with a hammer repeatedly thus creating the pozi shape again. Then you should be able to use the screw driver again, just make sure you push down hard so you dont slip and chew the head up again.

Depending how mangled it is you might be able to hammer a larger size torx driver bit into it. Ive done this before and its worked, but it depends how hard the screw is and how hard the driver bits are.

EDIT: beaten by Bear lol.

superglue + iron filings + wood dust + the tool that fits in there best...

secure it in tightly, and wait for 15-20 mins before trying

nowt wrong with drilling it. I drilled out similar screws on a laptop before. With the right size bit, the screw should just pop out. Just be 'economical' with the remaing screws on reassembly. Jus tto clairfy, I mean slowly with a battery cordless driver, not a HIGH speed hammer drill or something, lol.
